From Laos to America is a museum honoring the refugee’s experience. It is a two-decade collection of Hmong, Laotian, and other Asian cultural artifacts. Jim Harris and Marty Harris, retired educators, originally started the collection to connect with their Hmong students and teach their students about the Hmong’s history and their way of life before their families immigrated to the United States. Backed by the CIA, Hmong soldiers fought communist forces in Laos, while Americans fought the North Vietnamese. After the U.S. pulled out of Vietnam, the Hmong were overwhelmed by Laotian troops, and thousands fled Laos for United Nations refugee camps in Thailand, then resettled in America.
